TAO and New York City Department of Education Win Silver Medal at the IMS Global Learning Impact Awards

LUXEMBOURG – (May 31, 2018) – Open Assessment Technologies S. A., the leading provider of open source assessment solutions for education and public sector employment, today announced that TAO, its Open Source assessment platform, was awarded a Silver Medal at this year’s IMS Global Learning Impact Leadership Institute, for its impact on the New York City Department of Education’s Language Other than English (LOTE) and Gifted & Talented programs.

IMS Global Learning Consortium (IMS Global/IMS) is a leading non-profit collaborative whose mission is to advance EdTech interoperability, innovation, and learning impact. Its Learning Impact Awards program is the only global competition that recognizes outstanding, innovative technology applications that make a significant, positive impact at educational institutions.

Projects were evaluated by an expert panel that used eight criteria for determining clear evidence of innovation and learning impact, including improving access, affordability, and quality of learning. Attendees of the 2018 Learning Impact Leadership Institute—a total of 600—as well as the public were invited to vote on the finalists with their combined votes counting as one judge. Out of the 26 finalists, eight medalists were selected for their outstanding achievement, and TAO/NYCDoE won a silver medal.

This is the second time that TAO has been recognized by the IMS Global Learning Impact Awards. The first was in 2015, when TAO took home the Platinum award as the leading Open Source, QTI-compliant assessment platform that enables test content to be entirely portable, a crucial design feature as users embrace technology-centric education models.

“We’re honored to win a silver medal in this prestigious awards program for our collaboration with NYCDoE,” said Marc Oswald, co-founder and CEO of OAT. “It’s especially rewarding when our scalable technologies are making a difference in the real world, solving real problems, and advancing digital assessment as a whole. We are thankful to have our work recognized by one of the most prominent organizations in our industry.”
